About the Artist

Art is Where You Find Yourself
We all find a part of ourselves when we look at and appreciate art. And to turn the phrase, my art is a reflection of where I find myself. Part of that is where I am with my feelings, emotions and creativity in general, but also significantly in where I find myself physically.
As primarily a still life and portrait studio painter, I have been able to carry my “where” with me from studio to studio, as I compose my work and paint with natural light. But my world outside of the studio changed many times as my life took me from my early days at the Art Students League in NYC; to my studios in Washington, DC and Denver, Colorado; and ultimately to my studio here in Prospect Harbor, Maine.
Each stop has had an effect on who I am. And it’s not just the energy and beauty of these diverse locales, but also because at each stop in my life, I was blessed with great teachers and mentors. Growing up in Washington, DC, I was inspired and encouraged by my mother, professional artist “Glenhill”; and her parents, both of whom were artists. When I was out on my own, I studied under: John Howard Sanden and Oldrich Teply in NYC; Ken Marlow, Robert Liberace and Danni Dawson back in Washington, DC; and Quang Ho, Mark Daly, Richard Schmidt, Burton Silverman and Bettina Steinke in Denver Colorado and the southwest.
My journey has me settled on the rugged coast of Maine near where I spent every summer of my youth. Over the last decade my husband and I have built a home and studio overlooking the Prospect Harbor Light and a stone’s throw from the mainland section of Acadia National Park. My “where” is who I am and who I have become. I am surrounded by artists, lobstermen, potters, farmers, musicians, lumbermen, authors, furniture makers , and boat builders. I step out of my studio to paint more than I ever have and I paint the places and scenes where my neighbors and friends do what they do because of where we are.
While I still spend most of my painting hours in my studio, I am regularly drawn to the ocean, the local fleet and the rugged coast. It is a good tug of war on my creativity and I wake every morning wondering which will prevail for the day.
